Sarah Gold, born in the Netherlands in 1978, began her career as an art historian and independent curator. Over the course of ten years, shecurated exhibitions and symposia in various locations, from New York to Tokyo, and participated in the prestigious Venice Biennale. During this period, she collaborated with renowned artists such as Yoko Ono and Lawrence Weiner on art projects.
While working as a curator, Sarah Gold embarked on a deeply personal artistic journey by documenting intimate moments from her own life. For a decade, she captured these moments through photography, aiming to factor her personal experiences into her artistic practice. Her works serve as a diary, reflecting her life's encounters; adding her thoughts in the form of text to further imbue the images with meaning. Her work is a reflection of her personal life and experiences, including sexual interactions with others, the use of toys, and other objects that intrigue her. These elements are combined with text or assembled into assemblages, aiming to reflect and comment on her life.
The ultimate goal is to create positive acceptance of issues that are typically kept hidden from the public eye, promoting freedom, reducing shame, and broadening horizons. By blending her own life experiences with her artistic expression, Sarah Gold seeks to challenge societal norms, promote acceptance, and fight against shame and hypocrisy surrounding human intimacy and sexuality. Through her work, she aims to encourage others to embrace their own experiences and lead more open and authentic lives.
Eventually, Sarah Gold shifted her focus entirely to creating art, channelling her experiences as an independent curator and her personal documentation of intimate moments into her artistic practice. Her work continues to be a powerful reflection of her life and her passion for challenging conventions and promoting acceptance through art.
