My name is Kees de Witt Wijn.
After completing the National Academy of Visual Arts in 1968, I started working as an independent artist. I have continued to do so with the same enthusiasm and drive until today.
My artwork has been exhibited and sold across the Netherlands.
My field of expertise has always been steel. This material both attracts and challenges me. At first sight, it looks hard and cold, but my skills allow me to melt and reshape it and add my own creativity to it. Steel is, moreover, a durable material, a much-needed benefit when my work is placed in an outside environment.
I also combine various alloys, such as copper, brass and stainless steel.
My style is entirely my own and does not fit any particular box or style. In my artwork, I express the emotions that I feel while living in today's society. On the gallery walls of WIHH, you can see a piece that I called 'Jump In or Stay Out' and completed during the COVID period. WIHH is also exhibiting the sculptures Crashed & Crippled and Strange Figure. These works are symbolic representations of the mental mutilations that may afflict anyone in our society or simply in life.
It is a particular challenge for me to search for beauty in all these emotions, and most of the time I succeed in finding it.
