Junko Higashi

I'm a Japanese artist living in Utrecht.

I started producing videos at Japanese clubs and festivals as a VJ in 1999. At the beginning, I used videotapes and a video mixer, and went to the scene with a huge projector. That sounds tooo old style now...

In 2000, in parallel with the production of art animation, I joined a group that planned and operated screenings and I began working as a staff. This animation group called "animation soup" has a lot of experience for screening in Japan and around the world over 20 years.

In addition, I was in charge of chorus and synthesizer in the band called "111111111111 (twelve one)", which started activities at 11:11:11 on November 11, 2011. We played in this band to live houses, clubs and festivals.

And then, I began painting after moving to the Netherlands in 2015.
Currently, I'm drawing based on images from my heart. Sometimes I'm searching for light, sometimes I'm conflicted, sometimes I'm calm, sometimes I feel like I'm being reborn. When I started doing yoga, I learned how interesting breathing is, so recently works are images of breathing.
