Judocus van Soest ( Tegelen17-11-1961 ) is a 1980s black-and-white analogue street photographer in Amsterdam. Slide projections at locations such as De Muur and Mazzo.
From 1987 to 1990, he attended the St. Joost Academy in Breda, studying photography.
His photography work includes projects for Mediakrant, the municipality of Amsterdam, Vrij Nederland, and the photobook "Een beetje uitgebuit" about newspaper delivery workers in Amsterdam (published by Uitgeverij Tuindorp in 1992).
Since 1994, he has been engaged in VJ/visuals work using analogue slide projections with slides painted with oil and ink techniques on glass, along with self-made special effect devices placed in slide projectors. He provided projections for events such as Hour Power Escape, Paradiso VIP Club, Extrema Outdoor (1998-99), Pacha, Amnesia, and Space Ibiza.
From 2000 to 2023, he has been involved in slide projection VJ-ing for Magneetbar at Lowlands, Tommy Hilfiger, Loveland, Landjuweel Ruigoord, Masters of Hardcore, Rooms of RedBull, Hermitage Van Gogh museum, TEFAF, Boomfestival Portugal, and in 2023, teaching at the Event Management School in Diemen.
Since 2017, he has incorporated slide images from VJ work into light objects/light sculptures, where the slides are enlarged/printed onto translucent film (duratrans) and placed in frames made from recycled and functional materials (such as doors, windows, and chairs). The resulting light sculptures are equipped with adjustable RGB LED lighting, among other features.
