Jos Kleinjans (1954, Sittard, NL) learned - when still a boy- to his amazement how a drawn line can create life. Some years later, he discovered the strength of oil painting, and in particular, its rich colours. Instead of joining art school though, he decided on studying biology at Nijmegen University and on pursuing an academic career.
He was employed for more than 40 years by Maastricht University as a toxicologist and professor of Environmental Health Science, predominantly investigating the effects of adverse chemicals on the human genome. Across this period, as an autodidact focusing on painting the human figure, he advanced his oil painting skills mainly by studying the classical masters in the leading musea of the world.
Nowadays being with retirement, he is finally able to dedicate his full time to painting in his studio. Over the last decade, his work has been presented by multiple galleries in the Limburg area; part of his series Dark Days is currently on show at the What is Happening Here gallery in Amsterdam.
